1.
Sweet days, sweet hearts Count on me, your counter part Another daydream A long time ago It never fades away You watch your game show I couldn’t take it Run, run. Steal away. Around our island on the Queen’s chain I’m Magellan of the kitchen I’m the King of Spain
2.
Build a Fire 05:38
Breathe the cold air and leave the house Take the streets back to where it all shook out Feel the first touch of morning sun This blood and bone you own it’s all brand new and unbegun Build a fire Let the dogs get the scent and run Bring your spade we’ll dig them up, we’re not the only ones Finders keepers, in the hills we’ll hide What we don’t want we can burn, leave unidentified
3.
Lighthouse 04:00
A drop in the ocean Dreams drift off course Unsettled emotion Drown in remorse Far from the coastline Your knees to your chest Something controls you Has you possessed I can feel the water rising I can feel it pull me down She’s a storm, I see the lighthouse Welcome home my weary wanderer Round the horn, the ghost of Jonah Promises safe waters back to you Guided by night sky Bright Southern Cross Celestial pilot White albatross The song of the siren To watery graves Drawn by the voices To die in the waves
4.
It went from just a minor crime To capital offence  Existential crisis from Paranoid suspense
Detective smokes a cigarette  Beneath a neon sign The anti hero monologues  Starts to blur the line
The private eye Loves the femme fatale She finds the dirty cop arresting A touch of evil Running deep Shadows with unhappy endings
Indulge a wicked fantasy  No way that this can last Creeping claustrophobia  Haunted by the past
Spider woman double cross Her lover shoots her dead He’d be 25 to life But I pumped him full of lead
5.
Hung high in the trees The radios play Each one a different song And the birds are the DJs The weather is here I wish you were lovely Walk down to the beach We’ve got all we need I love this place we live Between the water and sunshine

about

Like its predecessor, the second self-titled EP by Auckland band Silk Cut is referred to by its cover image. ‘Panda’ is overall a more up-tempo and direct EP than the first.
The drums and bass widen their scope, each song in turn plying a distinctly different groove.
Guitar provides much of the scenery - sparkling, vivid, and commanding - adding economical melodies or laconic asides here and there.
Once again all band members give voice to Thorne’s songwriting, two or three-part harmonies appearing throughout.

about

Silk Cut Auckland, New Zealand

In a way Auckland band Silk Cut are simply thinking aloud. Drawing on their affection for 60’s and 70’s British TV and early 90’s shoegaze, they are at once eccentric and perfectly normal.

Recorded with a load of reverb and harmony, they present like echo-chamber daydreams.
